FisherONE Student Louie Galman Shines Bright with Multiple Achievements
FisherONE College is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of one of its brightest stars, Louie Galman, a Year 11 specialist maths student who has been making waves in various competitions and initiatives.
Rotary 4-Way Test Speaking Competition Triumph
Louie recently showcased his public speaking skills in the Rotary 4-Way Test Speaking Competition held on 17 July.
Louie said the competition required participants to deliver speeches on thought-provoking topics.
"My topic was “Does social media contribute to teenage social/emotional issues?" he said.
“I was fortunate enough to emerge as the overall winner of the competition."
“I believe social media's impact on teenagers is a crucial subject, and I'm glad my speech resonated with the audience and judging panel."
A voice for Youth…
Louie's dedication to public service extends beyond the confines of the school. He has recently been appointed as the Youth Member for the Bundamba Electorate in the Queensland Youth Parliament (QYP) for 2023.
The QYP provides young people with a unique opportunity to influence policies and decision-making processes in Queensland.
During the holidays, Louie attended a 3-day camp for Launch Weekend, where he engaged in parliamentary operations and collaborated with other Youth Members.
Assistant Principal Online Learning Megan Pidskalny said Louie's appointment to the Queensland Youth Parliament is a testament to his leadership qualities.
“FisherONE is proud of Louie's commitment to making a positive impact in our community and we are thrilled to see him take on this responsibility."
In another significant achievement, Louie was appointed as a member of the Ipswich Youth Advisory Council (IYAC), which is designed to empower and inspire young people in the Ipswich local government area.
"I believe it's essential for young people to have a say in shaping their community's future," Louie said.
“I look forward to contributing to meaningful changes that benefit the youth in Ipswich."
A Musical Talent: Stanthorpe Busking Competition
Aside from his achievements in public speaking and advocacy, Louie has also displayed his musical prowess.
Earlier this year he participated in the Stanthorpe Busking Competition, where he wowed the audience with his saxophone skills, taking second place in the Secondary Age Division.
Ms Pidskalny said Louie's dedication to academics, public service, and the arts serves as an inspiration to his peers and an example of the positive impact young individuals can have in their communities.
“With these incredible achievements and diverse talents, Louie exemplifies the spirit of excellence that FisherONE encourages in its students," she said.
